Office 2019 (for both Windows and Mac) is a one-time purchase and does not receive feature updates after you purchase it. Office 2019 includes a meaningful subset of features that are found in Microsoft 365, but it's not part of Microsoft 365. Office 2019 will receive quality and security updates as required. Mar 20, 2020 Windows Server versions are not listed in the chart, because we have not done extended Quality Assurance of our end-user software with any Windows Server version. However, we are not aware of any incompatibilities between our end-user software and Windows Server 2008, 2012, 2016, or 2019 (through version 1903). TurboTax 2019 system requirements are not out yet but the TurboTax software has nothing to do whether Microsoft supports Windows. You will have to wait until the 2019 system requirements come out to see if TurboTax will function on Windows 7.
The following problem occurred after installing updates to a Windows 10 based PC with Office 2019: All MS Office applications doesn't open and display the error: 'The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000142). Click OK to close the application'.
The application error 0xc0000142 'The application was unable to start correctly', may appear when your try to open any Microsoft Office 2016 or 2019 program (Word, Outlook, Excel, etc.), after installing the following Windows 10 Updates:
- KB4480116 : 2019-01 Cumulative Update for Windows 10
- KB4481031 : 2019-01 Cumulative Update for .NET Framework 3.5 and 4.7.2 for Windows 10
- KB4483235 : 2018-12 Cumulative Update for Windows 10
This tutorial contains step by step instructions to fix the Error 0xC0000142 when you start an Office 2016/2019 application.
How to Fix: Application Error 0xC0000142 in MS Office 2016 or 2019.
Important: Before you continue to apply the methods below, navigate to Update and Security center and install all available updates.
Method 1. Uninstall Latest Windows or Office Updates.

Method 1. Uninstall Latest Windows or Office Updates.
The first to resolve the error 0xc0000142 in Office programs, is to uninstall the latest Windows updates from your PC. To do that:
1. Simultaneously press the Windows + R keys to open run command box.
2. In run command box, type: appwiz.cpl and press Enter.
3. In Programs and Features click View Installed updates on the left.
4. Click at 'installed on' to sort the updates based on their installation date, and then select and uninstall all the latest Windows (or Office) updates.
5. When the uninstall process completed restart your computer.
6. After restart, open any Office application and check if the error 0x0000142 has resolved. If the error persists then follow the same steps and uninstall all the latest Updates, before you continue to the next method.
Method 2. Restore your System to a Previous Working State.
The next method to fix the Error '0xc0000142 – application was unable to start correctly' in Office 2016 or Office 2019, is to restore your PC to a previous state by using the Windows System Restore feature. To do that:
1. Simultaneously press the Windows + R keys to open run command box.
2. In run command box, type: rstrui and press Enter.
3. At the first screen of the System Restore wizard, click Next and then select a previous state and click Next to restore your system on that date.
4. When the system restore is completed, check if the error 0xc0000142 is resolved.
Method 3. Repair Office.
Office 2019 Does Not Work On Windows 7 Product
The final method to resolve the error 0xc0000142 in MS Office 2016/2019, is to repair the Office installation by following the steps below:
1. Simultaneously press the Windows + R keys to open run command box.
2. In run command box, type: appwiz.cpl and press Enter.
3. In Programs and features, select the Office version you have installed, and click Change.
4. Leave the Quick Repair option selected and click Repair.
5. When the Office repair process is completed, launch any Office application and see if the error persists. If the error '0xc0000142' appears again, then follow the same steps but this time select the Online Repair option. *
* Note: The 'Online Repair' process, will remove and then will reinstall all the Office applications on your PC. After, reinstall you may prompted to reactivate your Office product.

How can I get updates for Office as well?
Office 2019 On Windows 8.1
By default Windows Update only updates Windows itself. In order to get updates for Office and other Microsoft products as well, you’ll have to “update” your Windows Update to Microsoft Update.
When you are using an Microsoft 365 (formerly Office 365) installation or a Click-to-Run installation of Office 2013, Office 2016 or Office 2019, then the updates will not be offered via Windows Update but will be installed automatically. Depending on your installation source, you can manually check for updates from within any Office application or the Microsoft Store on Windows 10.
Upgrading from Windows Update to Microsoft Update
In order to switch from Windows Update to Microsoft Update, you can launch Windows Update like you’d normally do and then click the appropriate link as indicated below. A quick way to locate Windows Update is to to open the Start Menu or Start Screen and type; Update.
Windows 10
Click on the “Advanced options” link and select the option: Receive updates for other Microsoft products when you update Windows.
Enable Microsoft Update in Windows 10 to get Office updates too.Windows 8 (Modern Update App)
Open the Start Screen and type “Update”. This should give you a search result called: Choose whether to automatically install Windows Updates.
When you click on this result, you’ll get a screen which allows you to select: Give me updates for other Microsoft products when I update Windows.
Windows 8 also allows you to select Microsoft Update via its touch friendly interface.Windows 7 and Windows 8
Click the “Find out more” link to switch to Microsoft Update.
If it is not available, click on the “Change settings” link on the left and you should be able to select the option:
Give me updates for other Microsoft products when I update Windows.
Enable Microsoft Update in Windows 7 or Windows 8 to get Office updates too.When you’ve switched successfully, the Windows Update screen will no longer show the “Find out more” link and should state:
You receive updates: For Windows and other products from Microsoft Update.
In case you run into issues with an update and want to uninstall it, you can uninstall it via one of the methods described in Uninstalling Outlook or Office updates.
Updating Office 2013 / 2016 / 2019 / 365 installations (Office website installer)
When you are using a Click-to-Run installation of Office 2013, Office 2016, Office 2019 or Microsoft 365, then updates won’t be coming via Microsoft Update and you won’t be able to install updates or hotfixes manually either via their standalone installer.
Instead, updates for Office will be installed automatically for you within a few days after these updates get released. You can also force it to check for new updates and apply them by using the Update Options button.

When you are using Windows 10 and have installed Office from the Microsoft Store, then updates are also managed via the Microsoft Store.
To manually check for updates, open the Microsoft Store app and click on the ellipsis (3 horizontal dots) menu icon in the to right corner. From the menu that open choose; Downloads and Updates. Press the “Get updates” button to check for updates of all your Microsoft Store apps.
